Pedestrian Hurt in DUI accident, Woman Arrested
A Florida teen was hospitalized after 32-year-old Sally Quirk struck her while she was walking in the street Monday evening. Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the teen was walking in the middle of State Road when she was hit by Quirk’s SUV. Quirk then fled the scene, running a red light in the process, and eventually crashing into two other vehicles further down the road.
It was later reported that Quirk’s two children, aged 4 and 5, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both of Quirk’s children were taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital to be treated; with one being identified in serious condition. When given a field sobriety test at the scene of the second accident, Ms. Quick registered a .232 blood alcohol level, which is almost three times the legal limit.
Quirk was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, running a red light and child endangerment. Both of Quick’s children were placed in the custody of family members.
One neighbor, Jon Golden, said he wasn’t surprised she was charged with DUI.
“It’s not a surprise to us at all. I hope they get all the help in the world. I hope they’re okay. I realize what happened, they should have been left at home you know, but she took them with her.”
